Arsenal supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern in recent times after seeing their side record a second successive Premier League victory at the weekend.
Unai Emery’s men went into their clash with newly-promoted Cardiff City off the back of winning for the first time under the Spaniard the week before, beating West Ham 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium. And the Gunners recorded a second straight victory on Sunday as goals from Shkodran Mustafi, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Alexandre Lacazette inspired them to a 3-2 win at the Cardiff City Stadium, with goals from Victor Casamara and Danny Ward not enough to earn Neil Warnock’s side a point from the encounter.
As such, there have been many delighted Arsenal fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom are likely to be wondering what youngsters could seek to make a breakthrough under new manager Emery this season.
But one talent who won’t be turning out for the Gunners this term is forward Reiss Nelson, who made the move to Hoffenheim in the last knockings of the summer window – this not long after penning a new long-term deal to remain at the Emirates Stadium.
And Arsenal supporters will surely be hoping that the forward has made an inspired decision to make the move on loan for the first time in his career, as there is little doubting that the Englishman has a bright future ahead of him.
The 18-year-old joined the Gunners academy at the tender age of nine and has since made his way up through the ranks at the North London giants, to the point that he has already made 16 senior appearances for the club, all of which coming last season under Arsene Wenger.
But such is the plethora of attacking options available to new boss Emery, it was always going to be difficult for Nelson to command regular opportunities for the Gunners this term, but instead of turning out for the development squad every week, he has instead taken the plunge by moving to the Bundesliga.
Several young players in Jadon Sancho and Ademola Lookman have made the move to the German top-flight in recent times, be it permanently or on loan, with the latter in particular having great success to suggest that it could be the ideal place for young English starlets to make the grade – the next could be Nelson.
Ultimately, in having already appeared 16 times for Arsenal, as well as netting 17 goals in just 38 appearances for the club’s Under-23 team, it’s clear that the 18-year-old has a huge future in the game – potential that Arsenal will hope can be fulfilled at the Emirates Stadium.
And as part of his development, going out on loan appears to be a big decision from the Englishman, one Arsenal fans will surely be hoping will turn out to be an inspired one.
