‘Where is his statue?’ – Arsenal fans respond to club’s Twitter post about £45m-rated man

Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been responding to a post Tweeted by their club with a link to a story on Arsenal’s websitedetailing why Mesut Ozil, valued at £45m by Transfermarkt, decided to stay at the club.

Arsenal fans had the news of Ozil’s contract extension broken to them just after the January transfer window had closed, which came as a positive after losing Alexis Sanchez to rivals, Manchester United. Ozil is now in his fifth year with the club after signing for Wenger on deadline day of the summer window in 2013 and has so far helped the club to three FA Cups and two Community Shields, as well as being a part of the German’s 2014 World Cup winning squad.

Despite his impressive honours list, Ozil has come under criticism in the last couple of years for having a low work rate and failing to deliver in big games for Arsenal. Although fans of the club can overlook this as when the 29-year-old is on his game, he can be one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and can be a joy to watch. The Gunners who have been propping up our bar will hope that they have many more years of watching their magical number 10 light up The Emirates.

Here’s our resident Gunners’ verdict on Ozil:
