Arsenal fans down in the Transfer Tavern are fed up with Alexis Sanchez’s ongoing transfer saga – it’s time to get rid, they say.
The Chilean who has one year to run on his current deal at The Emirates has so far remained coy on his Arsenal future – but after failing to sign a new deal, it appears the winger is prepared to leave the club.
Sanchez has not travelled with the Arsenal squad for the club’s pre-season tour of Australia. The 28 year-old is currently resting after taking his national side to the Confederations Cup final.
Arsene Wenger this week stated that he fully “expects” Sanchez to remain an Arsenal player this summer. However, Gooners will take the boss’ comments with a pinch of salt after Wenger made similar statements about Samir Nasri, Cesc Fabregas and Robin Van Persie, all of which subsequently left the club.
After a fracas on the training ground and pictures of Sanchez laughing from the bench as his teammates were dismantled by Bayern, it appears the winger is ready to swap The Emirates for The Etihad. Manchester City have kept no secret of their interest in the forward who netted 30 times in all competitions for Arsenal last season.
However, if Arsenal sell their talisman now, but not to domestic competition, it means they keep the Chilean away from directly strengthening a rival and get use the money to bring in reinforcements.
If Wenger decides to maintain Sanchez’s services this season without him signing a new deal, it means the Gunners would lose the player for free next summer – and he can start looking for apartments in Manchester by Christmas.
