With Tottenham out of the race, Arsenal must now go all out to land £27m-rated attacking ace

Arsenal supporters in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating the new era at their football club following the appointment of Unai Emery as Arsene Wenger’s successor last month.

68-year-old Wenger vacated his role as Gunners boss at the end of the season after 22 years in charge of the North London heavyweights, in which time he led them to three Premier League titles, and indeed seven FA Cup crowns. However, recent years have seen Arsenal fall some way behind the other elite English teams, to the point that Emery will inherit a squad that finished sixth in the top-flight this term, a staggering 37 points adrift of champions Manchester City.

Nonetheless, there are many excited Gunners supporters in the Tavern ahead of the new season, with several showing an interest in recent reports which suggest that North London rivals Tottenham are set to end their interest in Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.

Thus, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side seemingly out of the race for the £27 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt), Emery’s Arsenal must now go all out to land the 25-year-old attacking sensation this summer.

Ultimately, the Ivory Coast international has proven to be one of the most lethal and influential attackers outside of the Premier League’s top six in the last few years, with Zaha playing a key part in keeping the Eagles in the top-flight in the past two campaigns.

The 25-year-old scored nine goals and laid on five assists for Roy Hodgson’s side this time round to help them to an 11th place finish in the top tier, adding to the seven goals and 11 assists he contributed last term to inspire Sam Allardyce’s side to safety.

As such, it’s clear that Zaha has found a level of consistency in his game that was lacking a few years ago, and it’s those consistently high-level displays alongside the regular amount of goals and assists that have transformed him into a hugely desirable forward.

Significantly though, the Ivorian possesses genuine match-winning quality which wouldn’t go amiss in Emery’s Arsenal side, a side that mustered just four Premier League away victories last season, doing the double over only four top-flight teams.

And with the futures of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere still uncertain heading into the rest of the summer, the new Arsenal chief may need to spend big bolstering his attacking options, especially given how influential the former was in helping the Gunners to sixth place, and indeed the last four of the Europa League.

And Zaha could be that man, as although he has already earned a big move in his career by joining Manchester United back in 2013, he is twice the player now as he was back then, and has developed a maturity and consistency which would make him an asset to Emery’s side next season.

Thus, with Spurs having taken themselves out of the running for the 25-year-old, Arsenal must take advantage by going all out for the Ivorian’s signature this summer.
