However, reports from ESPN suggesting Santi Cazorla has returned to full training will likely give both his teammates and his fans a major boost heading into the end of the season.
The popular midfielder has been out of action since late November because of a knee injury picked up in the loss to West Bromwich Albion and could only watch on as their title tilt crumbled.
He will now be available as the season reaches its conclusion and is likely to stake a claim in the Spain squad for Euro 2016.
The World Cup winner joins fellow midfielders Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky in returning from lengthy absences, meaning the club could yet finish the season strongly.
