Worrying news for Arsenal fans despite decent summer for Arsene Wenger

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern cannot stop talking about their wildly entertaining 4-3 win over Leicester City on the opening day of the Premier League.

Indeed, while there certainly are issues afoot at the Emirates, some of the Gunners’ attacking play thrilled our north London locals.

So, with some of them feeling rather optimistic, reports from the Daily Telegraph haven’t gone down overly well.

They claim Manchester City are STILL weighing up a move for Alexis Sanchez, despite Arsene Wenger’s insistence he won’t be sold to a Premier League rival. Pep Guardiola has been credited with an interest in his former striker for months now and, according to this report, could make a £60m bid for the 28-year-old.

The Chilean is understood to be viewed as a vital addition up at the Etihad, meaning this saga is not yet over for our resident Gooners.

Sanchez himself is believed to be open to the idea of seeing out the final year of his deal in north London, though could reportedly push for a move if the Sky Blues do make an official move.

It’s going to be a long summer for the Arsenal fans in our bar…

Landlord’s Verdict:

Arsenal simply can’t sell Sanchez now. With so little time left to replace him, losing him now would be a huge blow both on and off the field at the Emirates Stadium.

Though the idea of seeing him depart on a free next year may be gutting, they’ve left it too long this summer.
