Arsenal’s £16.2m-rated midfielder could solve all of West Ham’s problems next season

The West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been slightly concerned by their side’s lack of progress since they moved to the London Stadium in the summer of 2016.

The move to the London Stadium was supposed to usher in a new era of success for West Ham United, but so far there’s been little evidence to suggest the club are moving forward at any significant rate. The supporters are hoping that will change during the summer window and that the owners will put their money where their mouth is to ensure that a repeat of the current campaign does not manifest itself once again next season.

In reality, a club of West Ham’s size and stature should at least be aiming to finish in the top-half of the table, if not a top-seven finish. The Hammers awful start to the season under Slaven Bilic has ensured that a top-seven finish is off the cards this season, but that could all change if the club are able to land a handful of quality players in the summer window.

One area which the club are desperately in need of strengthening is in centre-midfield, especially now Mark Noble is less than a month away from celebrating his 31st birthday. With that being said, West Ham should strongly consider adding Jack Wilshere (valued at £16.2 million by Transfermarkt) to their shortlist of players to pursue this summer.

Signing a player of Wilshere’s calibre would not only add a level of quality and creativity to West Ham’s midfield which exceeds that of any player currently at the club, but it would also serve as a statement of intent to the rest of the league regarding their ambition for the future. There’s no doubt about it, Wilshere would be a marquee signing for the club, so his arrival would encourage other quality players to make a move to West Ham.

Wilshere’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and, with doubts over his willingness to sign an extension with the club continuing to persist in the British media, it seems likely that his departure could be on the horizon. If that proves to be the case then the hierarchy at West Ham must do everything they can to secure his signature and ease the tension between themselves and the supporters regarding the their perceived lack of ambition.
