The Gunners were linked with numerous strikers over the summer including FC Porto’s Jackson Martinez and Monaco’s Radamel Falcao among others.
But according to the London Evening Standard, one player that was never on his way to Emirates Stadium was Netherlands international Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
Schalke chief Horst Heldt has rubbished claims that the North London side launched a last minute bid to lure the striker away from Gelsenkirchen.
It was thought that the Gunners had activated his release clause following an injury to Olivier Giroud that will keep the French striker out until after Christmas.
But the German club have since denied that any bid for the striker was made.
“There was no approach from Arsenal or from any other club,” Heldt was quoted as saying by Kicker.
“Klaas-Jan is part of Schalke’s core. We can definitely see him sign a contract renewal here.
“He is a great player, an absolute modern professional. He’s always hungry for success and wants to achieve his goals.”
