Arsenal’s Euro 2016 star confirms he’ll decide future after tournament

Wojciech SzczesnyArsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been enjoying the European Championships so far, seeing a host of their stars in action, and they’ve been discussing the future of one of those players.

The Daily Star quotes Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny as saying he will decide his future after Poland’s involvement in the summer tournament and is currently focused on his national side.

Szczesny spent last season on-loan in Italy with Roma, where he impressed, and performed admirably during Poland’s opening victory of Euro 2016 over Northern Ireland, after he was selected to start ahead of former Arsenal team-mate Lukas Fabianski.

The Polish stopper will return to Arsenal this summer but his future is not certain, as it’s unlikely he’ll dislodge Petr Cech as the Gunners number one, and Szczesny confirmed there is a decision to be made:

“Right now I’m not thinking about my future. My team-mates and I are focused exclusively on the Euros. I hope to achieve a good result with Poland. I’ll only think about other things once the tournament is over.”

When Szczesny made his debut in 2009 it was hoped he’d go onto become Arsenal’s number one for the foreseeable future but our landlord believes that ship has sailed.

Should Arsenal retain Szczesny’s services next season? Let us know in the comments below!
