Metro have some bad news for Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern, who earlier this week thought that they had managed to sign Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata on loan for the rest of the season.
The Gunners have been flying high this season and have even managed to get a four point lead at the top of the Premier League table. The likes of Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil are flying, and even misfit forward Nicklas Bendtner scored against Hull City this week.
Despite this, Wenger would ideally like to add another forward to his squad and had identified the Spanish Under-21 international.
Now manager Carlo Ancelotti has moved to dismiss speculation that the forward will be leaving in the winter, claiming, “Morata stays because we need him. It’s true that he has not played many games but we have every confidence in him.
“It could be at the end of the season that he is not happy and we can think about letting him go but we need him now.”
As our landlord quips, Real Madrid also have Karim Benzema who Arsenal have been heavily linked to, and youngster Jese Rodriguez.
Should they make good on their promise to buy Luis Suarez in the January window, one of these forwards will have to leave the club and Wenger is ready to pounce.
