The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to Unai Emery will be able to achieve during his first few months in the job.
The Spaniard has a big task on his hands as he looks to reinvent the Arsenal first team after years of disappointing form. Arsene Wenger’s later years were characterised by poor form and a lack of trophies, and so Emery will know what his tasks are.
He needs to make a quick start to proceedings this summer, as the later he leaves it, the less time he will have to prepare for next season.
June could prove to be a pivotal month for a lot of clubs, Arsenal included. It’s likely that this month will be spent securing crucial deals and working out a plan for the rest of the summer.
But what would a perfect June look like for Arsenal? Would it involve new signings, departures, or something else entirely? Let’s take a look…
Jack Wilshere Signs Fresh Terms
Somehow, Jack Wilshere’s contract is just weeks from expiring.
The Englishman was Arsenal’s golden boy as a teenager, but somehow, he has fallen out of favour.
However, he’s clearly still a top player, and it would be a shame for him to leave on a free.
Losing him would be a bad start to Unai Emery’s time at the Emirates. Wilshere deserves another chance.
Aaron Ramsey Commits His Future
Another player that needs a new contract is Aaron Ramsey.
His deal ends next summer, but his renewal is arguably more important than Wilshere’s.
Ramsey is the focal point of this team, and losing him next year would be nothing short of a disaster.
He must renew his deal, and Emery must build the team around him.
Emery Makes An Impact
Whilst a handful of players already at Arsenal need to be tied down, Emery also needs to make an impact with regards to incoming players.
Arsenal’s squad isn’t good enough – that’s pretty clear. If the Gunners are to challenge at the top again, they need far more quality.
Emery is a manager with years of experience, and he’ll know that more signings are needed.
The sooner he makes them the better.
