The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are disappointed after a quiet deadline day at the Emirates…
A move for Thomas Lemar, at one point, looked likely – but it appears as though the Gunners left it too late. When you consider the poor start to the season that Arsene Wenger’s side have made, their lack of activity does seem strange.
Still, fortunately, the Gunners managed to hold on to their important players, and that counts for something. But could there be a final hurdle for Arsene Wenger to overcome?
According to Cope, there certainly could be. They report that Mesut Ozil is a target of Barcelona, and given that the Spanish window doesn’t close until the end of today, that could leave the door open for a potential departure.
Ozil, it is said, has been rated at around €60 million (£55.2 million) – and should Barcelona meet that asking price, perhaps the Gunners could look to cash in.
This would put Arsenal in a tough spot, as they would be unable to sign a replacement, but this could also be the last chance for the Gunners to cash in on the German before his contract expires next summer.
It’ll be a tough call, should a bid come in, and given their lack of depth, a departure could spell disaster for the Gunners.
Ozil hasn’t been at it lately, but to lose him now would be a disaster.
On his day, he’s still a top player, and given that Arsenal won’t be able to replace him, they’ll struggle to ensure that they will remain potent going forward.
It opens up the risk of losing him on a free next summer, but that’s the situation that the Gunners have put themselves in.
