The Daily Telegraph have a rather interesting story for us today in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that Luis Suarez has been misquoted in the press – again.
The Liverpool forward has stated that his dislike of the English media and their journalists is a major reason for him wanting to leave Liverpool and England – slightly undermined by the request to leave for Arsenal, but as one of our punters quips, footballers aren’t known for their intelligence!
Now it seems he has been misquoted in his own country after the Uruguayan press reported he would be staying at Liverpool due to the fans and their affections for him. Cue the forward falling over himself to make it clear he did not say that in any way, shape or form.
Suarez claimed to Japan’s Kyodo News: “I didn’t say that, maybe someone else did and the main thing is that I am here now with the national team.”
Quite what anyone will make of this latest quote from the player apart from to decide that anything that comes out of his mouth is likely to be later attributed to a lie or being misunderstood remains to be seen but it certainly opens the door for manager Arsene Wenger to make another bid for the player.
Today, Metro noted that a bid of £49 million was being prepared – something that is thought to be enough to make Liverpool and manager Brendan Rodgers think twice about their stance on the player who has been nothing but trouble for them the whole summer long.
Given Wenger has been told by Manchester City that Edin Dzeko is not for sale and looks set to fail in any attempt to land Michu, Suarez really does look like the one and only option for Arsenal.
Will this one go right down to the wire. Is there hope that Suarez could yet sign for Arsenal? Let us know your thoughts below.
