It’s all about rejection today, after Pippa Middleton probably rejected Prince Harry’s advances at the Royal Wedding Reception, we now have Yann M’Vila rejecting a move to the Premier League, what is going on?
Reports surfacing from talkSPORT claim that speaking to French newspaper L’Equipe the highly rated midfielder has poured water on a possible move to England.
M’Vila joined the Rennes youth academy in 2004 when he was 14, and he broke through to their first team last season. Now approaching the end of his 2nd full year playing for the club there have been numerous rumours regarding his future. The midfielder has been linked with a host of top English sides including Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United.
The hard working Frenchman though has now suggested that he may be ready to remain in Ligue 1 for at least one more season, speaking to L’Equipe he said:
“I’m in no rush….I’m only concentrating on my football….My agents are already talking with the president and I am calm….I like to live the present and at the moment, the only certainty is that I have a contract signed here until 2014.”.
The French international is only 20 and it is therefore not surprising that he is in no hurry to leave Rennes. A third season playing in France would do him no harm whatsoever, in fact it would most likely be beneficial and give him more opportunities to develop his game.
The defensively minded midfielder is lauded for his reading of the game as well as his physical prowess, comparisons have been made between himself and former Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira, it is therefore probably not surprising that interest in the player has been so strong.
Rennes have valued one of their star performers at £15million, which is probably not beyond any of the clubs in question, but it may be deemed a little on the expensive side for someone with such limited experience.
I would have thought that everyone might gain if the player remained in France for one more season, the only real issue could be competition growing even stronger if he continues to impress. He seems in many ways a perfect fit with Arsene Wenger, he is exactly what Arsenal need and if anyone is to move for him this Summer and attempt to convince him to move, I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t the Gunners.
For now though its a flat rejection, this one will be reassessed in 12 months i’m sure, whether Pippa will reassess Harry’s offer in 12 months though remains to be seen…
