Scouts from Manchester United and Arsenal are looking at 21 year old Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama according to an article in the Mail.
The piece outlines that scouts from both clubs will be watching the £7m valued Kenyan during Celtic’s Champions League qualifier with Helsinki. It will be the third time representatives from the clubs have watched the youngster, after already watching him in Celtic’s games against Inter Milan and Norwich.
Wanyama has quickly become a fan favourite at Celtic Park. He is a strong defensive midfielder with the ability to pass the ball and hold the ball up. He is versatile and has the ability to play as a centre back if necessary. He has made 29 appearances for Celtic and has scored 4 goals.
It seems that the young midfielder really seems to be drumming up a lot of interest from the EPL with not only Arsenal and Manchester United being interested parties.
Another Mail article outlined Manchester City are also monitoring Wanyama after injuries to Gareth Barry and the expected departure of Nigel de Jong. The article also cites Liverpool, Newcastle and QPR as interested parties.
Wanyama only signed for Celtic last summer from Belgian side Beerschot AC in a £900,000 move and had a very impressive debut season. With his size and style of play he has been compared to Michael Essien. Celtic manager Neil Lennon is hoping to hold on to his midfield general, although Wanyama is thought to want a move to England and a £7m price tag will give the Scottish club a sizable profit.
Judging by the clubs interested in Wanyama he really must be a quality player with a bright future. He has been consistently good for Celtic in his debut season and seems to have took the move up from the Beligan league in his stride. However will the step up from the Scottish Premier to the English Premiership be as comfortable a transition for the youngster?
