Well you can throw another name into the frame for possible Marouane Chamakh replacement should he indeed be sold this Summer, although after yesterdays performances surely Nicklas Bendtner should be on the way out first!
Whoever it is that gets booted out by Arsene Wenger this Summer, it is reported in Italy that they have already found their replacement. That should also be music to their eyes of Robin Van Persie who is having to shoulder a lot of the sides goal scoring hopes lately.
Currently tearing up the Portuguese top flight with fellow South American Hulk, Falcao has been a highly regarded striker for a while. Currently in his second season with Porto he is looking like a forward who can definitely play at a higher level, and this is why our friends at Italian website Tuttochampions.it are reporting that both Arsenal and Tottenham are ready to go head to head for his signature this Summer.
Falcao spent the early part of his career playing in Argentina for River Plate where he spent 7 years, before making the inevitable move to Europe to move to his current club Porto. Now in his second season, he has the impressive record of scoring 64 goals in 80 games, a pretty devastating strike rate.
He is contracted to his club until 2013, and clearly with Hulk also attracting attention, Porto are not going to want to lose both, therefore any deal to secure the player could be pretty expensive. The Italian media reports suggest that it would take at least £13million to even think about selling him, so realistically a fee closer to £15million would probably be more likely.
Both Arsenal and Spurs could do with a goal scorer, but as reported by tuttochampions.it at the current moment in time Arsenal are the more attractive prospect since they can offer the player Champions League football next year, where as potentially Harry Redknapp and Tottenham may have to make do with the Europa League.
Interest has also come from Serie A with Juventus, Inter Milan and Roma watching the 25 year old closely, however I would have thought that the idea of playing in the Premier League would have been more attractive given the players skill set.
It seems unlikely to me that both Hulk and Falcao will leave this Summer, it will definitely be one or the other, but if Falcao is the one to leave, don’t be surprised to see him scoring goals in England next season!
