Arsene Wenger’s search for a new defender goes on, with yet another name being added to the list of potential targets today.
However, 26-year-old Michaël Ciani may, in fact, be the final solution to Arsenal’s defensive crisis.
Injuries to Thomas Vermaelen and Sebastien Squillaci have left Arsenal decidedly lightweight at the back, and the Gunners boss is keen to bolster his side’s defences before the transfer window closes.
Rumours continue to circulate over possible bids for Matthew Upson, Phil Jagielka, and in particular Christopher Samba; however, Arsenal look to have been priced out of a move for preferred targets Gary Cahill and Per Mertesacker.
In an effort to bring an end to the saga, Wenger may turn to Bordeaux defender, Michaël Ciani, who was the back-up plan should Squillaci’s transfer have fallen through last summer. It didn’t, of course, yet with Squillaci out of action, it looks like the boss will be reverting to his plan “B” after all, with a bid of £12m thought to be enough to secure the services of the highly-rated French international.
