After renewing his current deal earlier this summer, the pressure is on Gunners manager Arsene Wenger to finally start delivering trophies again at the Emirates.
The Arsenal fans lining the bar here in the Tavern have cut frustrated figures over the past few seasons but there’s that little bit of optimism as we grow closer to the new campaign that this could be the season to bring some silverware back to the Emirates.
But one man that remains to dominate transfer headlines is striker Alexis Sanchez, who’s future at the club is still yet to be resolved.
He’s got one year left on his current deal and with a new contract not yet looking likely, Arsenal face a decision as to sell him now to recoup a transfer fee or move him on for nothing at the end of next season.
But despite the predicament, Arsene Wenger is adamant his prized Chilean forward will not be sold this window and will continue to give his all whilst he wears the jersey.
Asked if Sanchez will continue to give his all if he remains this season, Wenger replied: “Of course. Why not?
“My conviction — and if you look well — it’s always in your interests, even if you have a short contract, to do well. And the kind of character he is,” he told Sky Sports News.
“He is a winner. When he goes on the football pitch, he wants to win. He is a guy who loves football. He has advantages and disadvantages on both sides going into a situation like that,” he added.
Alexis Sanchez remains one of the best players in the division and you must remember the quality he’s given Arsenal over the past few years.
Granted, his contract situation is a difficult one but for the Gunners, keeping hold of him for another season is of paramount importance.
