Arsene Wenger issues crushing blow to Man City in their hopes to sign Gunners giant

It’s set to be a summer of change down at the Emirates as Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger begins building his squad for the upcoming Premier League campaign.

He and the Arsenal fans lining the bar here in the Tavern will be hoping for better than what we saw this time and there’s hope that with some high-profile signings added to the current crop, things might be better going forward.

But there’s one man who’s future still hasn’t been resolved at the Emirates and that’s star striker Alexis Sanchez, who remains an individual that might depart over the coming weeks and months.

The Chilean international won’t have been impressed by what he saw on the pitch last time out and he has been linked with a move to big-spending Manchester City.

But Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been extremely quick to rule out any move for his star forward, saying he’d prefer to let his contract run down that sell him to the Citizens.

He told Bein Sports: “They [Sanchez and Ozil] will stay at the club and hopefully we can extend their contracts.

“You cannot weaken the club and weaken the team. You want to strengthen the team. Unless you find a player of the same calibre,” he added.

“When you sign a contract somewhere, you commit to give your best until the end of the last day of your contract. I would say, why should they not give their best?”

This news will come as a boost to some areas of the Gunners faithful, who had been worried Wenger would be quick to sell the club’s best assets to rival teams.
