The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are split right down the middle in their opinions of Arsene Wenger’s decision regarding his want away stars.
It is understandable when you’re nearing your 70s that confusion takes over and you become a bit delirious, but come on Arsene. Surely you know better than this.
Reports from the Evening Standard have revealed that the Arsenal boss is willing to let Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexis Sanchez all leave for free next Summer to ensure they honour their contracts.
Our landlord has just one question for the Frenchman. Why?!
Hypothetically speaking Arsenal could comfortably receive around £8 million for Wilshere and reports from various sources have revealed that clubs are lining up £35 million and £60 million offers for the Ox and Sanchez respectively.
That is over £100 million for Wenger to play with and it would also mean getting rid of any players who simply don’t want to be at the club anymore.
The landlord is struggling to see any negatives from this.
Surely one more season out of players who won’t be giving their all for a club keeping them their essentially against their will is not worth missing £100 million?
With that money, they could potentially hijack Liverpool’s deal with Virgil van Dijk and complete the signing of Thomas Lemar from Monaco.
Our landlord is under no assumption that Lemar would have more of an impact than Sanchez but it is painfully obvious that the Chilean is not going to sign a new deal.
Bringing in Lemar now as opposed to potentially next season when they have no other alternative would give the 21-year-old a year’s head start in the Premier League.
