The Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern want Wenger to stay for years to come…
The opinions amongst the Arsenal faithful in the Tavern with regards to Arsene Wenger seemingly change on a weekly basis, but the consensus right now is that they want the Frenchman to remain at the helm beyond his current contract expiry date at the end of the season.
Wenger himself has been relatively quiet on the plan, and has left it largely in the hands of the Gunners brass to decide his future. But now, the Arsenal boss has come out and discussed what role, if any, he could have with Arsenal beyond the end of the season (via BeInSports).
He said: “I am moving the club forward…have I done well? That will be decisive [in any decision]”
Elaborating, he said: “I am not at the end of my knowledge, or my desire”
He also touched on whether he will have a role in picking his own successor, stating: “My job is to be the manager of the club…The board’s responsibility will be to choose the next manager so that is not my job.
Wenger continued: “If they ask my opinion, I will give it in an honest way, but it will not be me to choose the next manager”.
It is very interesting to see Wenger discussing life after Arsenal, as Arsenal really has been his life for over 20 years now.
The Arsenal fans in the Tavern would love to see him stay, but at the same time, a succession plan definitely needs to be put in place.
Our landlord thinks that Wenger could be an invaluable ally for Arsenal going forward, so he thinks that the Gunners brass should definitely keep him at the club in some capacity.
