Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are in good spirits, but they should be concerned.
Olivier Giroud has made it clear he is ready to move on from Arsenal, but the Gunners simply have to keep the striker this summer.
The Frenchman fell down the pecking order last season after Arsene Wenger found Alexis Sanchez particularly effective through the middle.
Despite being handed limited appearances, the striker still proved to be an instrumental figure in the Arsenal team.
Giroud stepped off the bench to score a late equaliser against Manchester United at Old Trafford, while his scorpion kick was one of the goals of the season against Crystal Palace in January.
After signing a new deal with the Gunners last season, it appeared he would remain with the North Londoners for a number of years to come.
The forward wears his heart on his sleeve for Arsenal and has turned previous friction with the Arsenal supporters into current admiration.
However, The Express has reported that the France international is linked with a move to Everton this summer.
Of course, it is no surprise the striker is considering his options.
Arsenal have just signed Alexandre Lacazette for a club record fee and the likelihood of Giroud starting has only gone one way.
But the Frenchman also represents a plan B for the Gunners, who have often used his aerial threat as a means of scoring goals.
With Alexis Sanchez’s future looking increasingly ominous, Wenger simply needs to do all he can to hang on to the only other striker he knows he can depend on.
Gooners, we want to hear from you! Surely you’re not happy for Giroud to leave, he’s got more to offer. Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
