Arsene Wenger has today been linked with the signing of Villarreal’s goalkeeper Diego Lopez. The Gunners supremo is said to be wanted a top quality keeper to push Łukasz Fabiański and Wojciech Szczęsny to be number 1.
Lopez, 28, moved to El Submarino Amarillo from Real Madrid in 2007 and has gone on to become integral to Juan Carlos Garrido’s side. He has also appeared once for the Spanish national side in a friendly game against Macedonia.
There has yet to be any speculation on the player’s valuation but Villareal are likely to want to recoup much of the £5 million paid to Real. Arsenal are likely to use the money received for the sale of Manuel Almunia who has been told he can leave the Emirates in January.
Arsenal have also been linked with Udinese goalkeeper Samir Handanovič as well as Cagliari stopper Federico Marchetti.
