Ashley absolutely must reward Benitez with this marquee signing this summmer

Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern are pleased with how their season panned out, as they managed to secure another season in the Premier League.

The Magpies were fighting for their lives at one point as relegation back to the Championship looked likely, but Rafa Benitez managed to rally his troops for a strong finish to the campaign as they secured another season in the top-flight.

So, now that the season is finally over, Benitez will look to strengthen his squad with the summer transfer window on the horizon, as many of our local northerners are hoping for a number of additions.

Indeed, Mike Ashley should look to leave his stubbornness behind and provide Rafa Benitez with a marquee signing this summer, as the Spaniard has worked wonders for his club this season, so providing him with a big-name signing will be just reward for his efforts.

Without further ado, here’s who our local punters think Ashley should reward Benitez with…

Andros Townsend

Andros Townsend enjoyed a short stint at Newcastle United before being shipped off to his current club Crystal Palace back in 2016, but many of our local northerners now want to see him back at St James’ Park.

Encouragingly, the Englishman was able to produce a couple of goals and a number of assists this season, as a creative player that will always have a positive effect on proceedings in the final third. Indeed, the Magpies struggled with creativity this season as the service to the strikers wasn’t always great, with Matt Ritchie being the only real creative spark in their ranks.

So, bringing Andros Towsend back to St James’ Park would definitely benefit their game next season, as the Englishman has the ability to whip a number of dangerous crosses into the box and can contribute a number of goals too.
