Congolose international Assani Lukimya-Mulongoti has been linked with a summer move to Aston Villa, according to a report on TuttermercatoWeb.
Who? The 26 year-old centre-back has been capped three times for his country, making his international for DR Congo debut back in 2008 alongside Anzhi Makhachkala’s Christopher Samba.
Lukimya-Mulongoti also lined up alongside Samba during his spell at in the Hertha Berlin reserve team. Samba succeded in making the step up to Hertha’s senior team before moving to the Premier League, something Lukimya-Mulongoti failed to achieve.
Aside from a handful of appearances for Hansa Rostock, Lukimya-Mulongoti has played most of his football in Germany’s second tier. He even spent a season at third-tier side FC Carl Jeiss Jena before moving to current club Fortuna Düsseldorf.
The towering defender has been an ever-present this season for an F95 side pushing for promotion to the Bundesliga. Düsseldorf currently sit in second, two points from leaders Greuther Fürth, having lost only three games all season.
For now at least, he will be concentrating on getting promoted, this is what had to say in an interview with the Daily Mail:
“My dream is to one day play in the Premier League. I am flattered by the link with Aston Villa as they are a great club”.
Villa fans will have to cast their minds back to 1996 for their last major trophy, winning the League Cup with a 3-0 victory over my beloved Leeds United.
The current side are on a three game unbeaten run, and after Saturday’s home win against Fulham, they could mount a challenge for a top-half finish.
Next season fans of The Villans will expect much better from Alex McLeish, would Lukimya-Mulongoti improve the current squad?
