Aston Villa fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are in better spirits following the new appointment of Roberto Di Matteo as head coach and the owners have set some exciting targets for the supporters to look ahead.
And The Mirror reports today that the new boss is keen on bringing in Watford stopper, Costel Pantilimon, with the intention of making him the clubs new number one between the sticks.
The 29-year-old has had a good season with the Hornets but is unlikely to take a pay cut as Villa look ahead to their first season in England’s second tier competition since the Premier League’s beginning.
However, Di Matteo is hoping that the promise of first team football will be enough to lure the giant away from London, as Brad Guzan looks to make a return to his homeland of the United States.
Pantilimon recently signed a three and a half year deal at Vicarage Road and will not come cheap, which our landlord believes will be a problem.
Would this signing help Villa return to the Premier League at the first attempt? Let us know in the comments below!
