Aston Villa fans choked on their pints in the Transfer Tavern when they found out that new manager Remi Garde revealed that he rejected another Premier League side.
The former Lyon coach did reveal that he turned down a offer from another Premier League side before he accepted the Villa job this week but revealed to identify the particular club in question.
Many will believe that it is infact Newcastle United who were linked with Varde after former manager Alan Pardew decided to make his way to Crystal Palace but it is believed that Garde was never axtually offered the job at St James’ Park
The 49-year-old Frenchman said to the Independent:
“Yes I did [receive an offer]. But I said no because the previous one, the serious one, was in a period when I was not ready to start again. Regarding the way I left Lyon, I said to the chairman I wanted to stay honest. It was too early for me.”
Garde watched from the stands as his new side fell to a 3-1 defeat to Tottenham but is still optimistic about their survival prospects saying:
“There is a lot of work to do, but I was not disappointed with the players. Football is about scoring goals and not conceding so we need to find a good balance. We started already in the last two training sessions, it is a new start for the team. Each manager has his own view of football. I am going to try to do my best with my views.”
