Aston Villa will be looking to secure promotion back to the Premier League this season after a miserable campaign last time out which saw them switch managers and overhaul their squad completely under new owner Tony Xia.
The Villans have everything in place to be a Premier League club and many followers of the Championship expect them to be right in the mix come the end of this season under experienced manager Steve Bruce.
Our landlord here in the Tavern has been catching up with some of the Villa fans this week, enjoying a few quiet pints in the sun speaking about the impending transfer deadline day.
With new signings likely still at Villa Park, our landlord thinks Sheffield United defender Jack O’Connell could be the ideal signing for the club.
The big defender has made another impressive start for the Blades this season after becoming a firm fan favourite last term with some vital goals and solid defensive performances as United romped to League One glory.
O’Connell looks to have all the makings of a top quality central defender, and looks a real steal for the Blades, who signed him on the cheap from Brentford.
However, Villa have the finances to test the Blades’ resolve, and a move to a club like Villa to play with top quality players could prove tempting for O’Connell.
The Blades though would want a decent fee, but rest assured, O’Connell would ensure the Villa defence were solid for the remainder of the Championship campaign.
