Aston Villa close to Bournemouth captain as Di Matteo’s first signing

Di MatteoAston Villa fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are feeling confident ahead of next season in the Championship as they look to bounce back from last season’s hurt.

According to MailOnline, Villa’s new boss Roberto Di Matteo is close to bringing Bournemouth defender Tommy Elphick to Villa Park.

It is crucial Di Matteo rejuvenates Villa and he is hoping that the arrival of The Cherries’ captain would set the tone during pre season.

Something which played a crucial factor in Villa’s relegation from the Premier League last season was their shoddy defence and it’s no surprise Di Matteo’s first signing is a solid centre-back.

Not only that, but he has experience of winning promotion to the Premier League after his wonderful achievements with Bournemouth.

There will be hangovers from next season and punters in the Tavern believe it is up to their new boss to identify those who are up to the task to carry this huge football club back into the top flight.
