The Independent is reporting that Aston Villa are distancing themselves from reports of a move for prolific Rangers striker Kris Boyd as the transfer window rumbles on. Boyd is the record SPL goal-scorer after recently beating Henrik Larsson’s record and now English clubs are looking at Boyd to assess whether he could transfer his goalscoring form from Scotland to England.
Boyd, 26, has been previously linked with Middlesbrough and Birmingham and the competition for his signing is hotting up with Villa said to be the latest interested. Boyd’s contract expires at the end of the season and, with this meaning that a transfer fee would most likely be reduced, teams are ready to make a move for him.
Boyd, who made a name for himself whilst playing for Kilmarnock, has scored 19 goals in 19 league games so far this season; the impressive tally making it 121 goals in 175 games for Rangers. A mightily impressive tally.
But whilst Boyd’s goalscoring is impressive, there is little else to his play and this may go some way to putting clubs off signing him and could be a reason for Martin O’Neill’s supposed lack of interest in him.
