Aston Villa fans at the bar who are debating whether their pint glass is half full or half empty will be hoping that their scouting team have been successful after it was reported by clubcall.com that their club are interested in signing a pair of Portuguese attackers.
The Villans’ scouts enjoyed impressive performances by Paços de Ferreira’s Diogo Jota and Bruno Moreira during their 2-1 win over Vitoria Setubal. Villa are reported to have been actively tracking targets in Portugal over the past few weeks.
Whispers around the small circles who follow Portuguese football in the Tavern indicate that Jota is the better of the two talents, with the 19-year old also linked with a transfer to Benfica, though Pacos are said to be resisting his departure in the January transfer window.
The winger, named the Portuguese Primeira Liga’s Player of the Month in October and November, is an impressive young talent and would inject the energy and trickery that the Villa fans around the Tavern want in Remi Garde’s.
Moreira is also an impressive player, however, and it is the striker who scored both goals in their recent win to keep Pacos in the hunt for a European place, registering his 10th and 11th leagues goals this term in the process.
The 28-year old is a journeyman forward who has previously plied his trade for Chaves, CSKA Sofia and Moreirense, but he has finally found his form over the past two seasons, netting 21 goals in 36 starts for Pacos.
Unlike Jota, Moreira is out of contract at the end of the season and Pacos could be tempted into selling their top scorer to ensure that they cash-in while they can in the January transfer window.
Our resident Aston Villa fans feel that the pair of Portuguese attackers could both be hidden gems and bolster their attack as they look to rise from the bottom of the Premier League table.
