The Man Utd fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are keen for him to get some game time this season…
There must be few more frustrating roles in Premier League football than being 3rd choice Manchester United goalkeeper.
Not only does Sam Johnstone have to deal with Spaniard David De Gea, but he also has Sergio Romero in front of him. Whilst De Gea is more renowned in the Tavern, Romero is still a more than reliable option.
As a result, Johnstone’s game time in recent months has been limited – and United could be open to a loan move in an attempt to continue his development.
The Manchester giants could be in luck, as the Daily Mail are reporting that new Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce is keen on bringing the young goalkeeper to Villa, as he plots a January rebuild.
Contrary to popular belief in the Tavern, Johnstone is already 23-years-old, and he is getting dangerously close to the age in which you would consider him fully developed.
Sitting on the bench at Man Utd isn’t going to do anything to continue his growth as a goalkeeper – so a loan could be hugely important.
Our landlord thinks this deal would be perfect.
Whilst the Daily Mail do not specify if the deal would be a loan move or a permanent move, he thinks that a loan move could suit both clubs.
Villa get a top goalkeeper for a few months to ensure Championship survival, whilst Johnstone gets a bit of game time.
It’s a situation where nobody loses.
