Aston Villa fans call for Benteke return after Wembley triumph

Aston Villa fans will be waking up with sore heads today after overcoming Derby in yesterday’s Championship play-off final. The Villains did what they couldn’t last year, scoring either side of half-time before holding on after Derby clawed one back, and now that they’re the back the fans have been calling for Christian Benteke’s return.

Benteke was one of the ex-Villains who was quick to congratulate his former side on their promotion, and as his form at Crystal Palace has been nothing short of woeful the Belgian could be up for a move back to Birmingham. In his time at Villa Park, Benteke became the club’s 5th highest Premier League goalscorer with 42 goals, and he could easily rise to 2nd or even 1st on that list with a move back.

The Belgian striker has only managed to score an abysmal four goals in the last two Premier League seasons, and if he was to move back to Villa Park he may see an improvement in his goalscoring form. It was, of course, with the Villains where he registered his most successful season in England, scoring 19 league goals in his debut season of 2012/13. Now that Aston Villa are back, there’s no reason he shouldn’t give it another go at the club, and the fans would obviously love him back.

You can see what the Villains had to say in response to Benteke’s tweet here:

The Villains have all been pretty clear that they want Benteke back and will be keen to see their club make a move for the Belgian over the summer window.
