Many Aston Villa fans have demanded that left-back Matt Targett retains his spot in the Villa first team after he posted a tweet over the weekend.
Who should start at left-back for Aston Villa, Neil Taylor or Matt Targett?
The full-back tweeted after his side’s 2-2 draw with Burnley at Villa Park, saying that it was not the result that he had desired but that it was an ‘amazing’ feeling to play in front of the fans at Villa Park.
Targett had received a 7/10 from WhoScored before he was forced off the field with an injury, which saw Neil Taylor duly take his place.
The former Southampton man joined the club for £13.95m (per Transfermarkt) and played only his first league game of the season on the weekend. Unfortunately for Villa, he was forced off the pitch through injury just past the hour mark with an injury to his hamstring, according to the Express and Star.
More positively, though, Dean Smith is hoping it’s not too serious, and hope it’s more cramp than anything else.
Villa fans were delighted with his hour’s work. Many even suggested that that left-back position should become his own.
