Aston Villa: Fans praise Matt Targett after winning goal against Brighton

Aston Villa came from behind to secure an important 2-1 victory against Brighton & Hove Albion at Villa Park on Saturday (via BBC Sport).
The Villans scored in stoppage time of each half to cancel out Adam Webster’s opener, and claimed three points which saw them climb up to 11th place in the Premier League table at the time of writing (BBC Sport).
Jack Grealish scored their first goal on the stroke of half-time, but it was an unlikely player who was the eventual match winner. In the 94th minute left-back Matt Targett found himself inside the opposition penalty area, and when Grealish managed to find him with a pass he produced an accomplished finish to send Villa Park barmy.
As well as his goal, Targett also completed three key passes, won two aerial duels, made five interceptions and four clearances on a busy afternoon in the West Midlands (via WhoScored).
His performance earned him plenty of praise from the Aston Villa fans after the game, many of whom like what they are seeing from the man who joined from Southampton in the summer transfer window.
Here is what some of them had to say about Targett’s display on Twitter…
Matty you legend. Great finish. Keep working and the rewards will come.
