Tyrone Mings is expected to make his debut for England in their Euro 2020 qualifier against Bulgaria in Sofia, according to Sky Sports News.
Who should start at left-back for Aston Villa, Neil Taylor or Matt Targett?
The centre-half has been impressive form for Aston Villa this season, and given the Three Lions’ recent defensive frailties it is thought that Mings will be handed the opportunity to stake his claim for a place in the team.
Harry Maguire and Michael Keane started at centre-back in England’s disappointing 2-1 defeat against the Czech Republic last time out, but it seems that at least one of them may lose their place in favour of the former AFC Bournemouth man.
This is only Mings’ second time in the England squad following his first call-up in September, but it looks as though he has done enough to encourage Gareth Southgate to give him a chance.
So far this season he has helped Aston Villa keep two clean sheets and win eight points from their opening eight matches, and the stats behind his performances are pretty impressive.
He is currently averaging a huge 7.5 clearances per match, as well as 2.4 blocks and 1.3 interceptions (via WhoScored).
Naturally, Villa fans are delighted to see that one of their players looks set to line-up for England in Sofia. Most think that he thoroughly deserves it and that he will prove some people who doubt him wrong. Here is how some of the Villa faithful reacted to the news on Twitter…
Buzzing for him. He will show his qualities to the dumb fans who can’t understand how good he is.
