The Aston Villa fans are gathered at the jukebox selecting some tunes in The Transfer Tavern this evening and are discussing reports of a surprise appointment that could happen at the club.
The Sun is reporting that the Premier League strugglers want former player and TV pundit Andy Townsend to become the club’s new Director of Football.
Townsend is a former fan favourite and has been approached by Steve Hollis about becoming part of a new management team for next season’s assault on the Championship.
52-year-old Townsend still holds a great affection for Aston Villa and ,with the club failing to lure Stylian Petrov back to the club, they have set their sights on Townsend as they look to rebuild the relationship between the club and the fans.
Should Townsend accept the position, he will play a major role in the discussions as to who should replace the recently sacked Remi Garde as the club’s new manager.
The Aston Villa fans in The Tavern admit they would love Townsend back at the club, but that it will take more than a former player returning for them to even think about building bridges with the hierarchy at the club.
