Aston Villa supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern were left convinced that Emmanuel Adebayor would be the man to replace Christian Benteke, given the forward’s relationship with manager Tim Sherwood.
The 31-year-old had passed a medical and agreed terms on a year long loan deal, however with the finer details still to be ironed out, Villa were unable to confirm the move.
And now it looks as though that will remain the case, with the former Arsenal and Manchester City striker said to have had second thoughts on relocating to Birmingham.
Adebayor had suggested commuting from his permanent base in London, an idea that Sherwood is not keen on. That leaves the Villa boss on the hunt for a new striker, with less than 24 hours until the start of the Premier League season.
A group of Villa supporting punters here in the Tavern were unsure about the whole idea of signing Adebayor, and are actually quite glad that the deal is looking like it will collapse!
