There was a time not so long ago at Manchester City, just as the ‘Blue Moon’ began to rise that home nation players such as Stephen Ireland actually got a look in at first team football – imagine that now!
Joe Hart was not just an anomaly but joined numerous other English players, including Joleon Lescott, and most notably Micah Richards.
A local grown talent, Micah Richards broke into the England national team and was tipped by many punters here in the Transfer Tavern to hold down the right-back spot for many years.
However, after the plethora of foreign arrivals, both on the field and in the coaching set up, the once young English defender was marginalised, losing his England and City place to more attractive footballers.
This forced the physical player to do what few English lads do these days – play abroad for Fiorentina. Now, back on home soil and ready to fight for survival with Aston Villa, the player apparently wants his place back in the England team.
TalkSport are reporting that Richards feels he is as good as anyone in the current squad and is desperate to earn his first cap since 2012.
City fans……. Remember how promising Richards was? IS he good enough for England? Let us know your thoughts and opinions below!
