The Telegraph is reporting that the club are taking a look at impressive Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius.
Manager Tim Sherwood is believed to be looking for a change between the sticks with Brad Guzan currently having an inconsistent time so far this season, Sherwood is hoping the competition for places between Guzan, Mark Bunn and hopefully Loris Karius will improve the big American’s form.
The club had enquired about Brentford goalkeeper David Button during the summer, but Villa opted to sign out of contract Norwich goalkeeper Mark Bunn.
22-year-old Karius has a great reputation within Germany but is no stranger to the ways of English football, having spent his youth with Premier League Champions Manchester City.
He joined Mainz following a successful loan spell at the beginning of 2012-13 season, and has made the number one shirt his own over the last season and a half. Karius has represented Germany at all youth levels up to Under 21 and is a fine prospect to become his country’s number one in years to come.
The 6ft 2ins stopper has made 66 appearances for Mainz during his two seasons with the club, and has been an ever present so far this term.
Aston Villa fans in The Transfer Tavern are delighted at the thought of welcoming a prospect like Karius to the club, and hope a deal can be concluded in January.
