The Aston Villa fans who are gathered in The Transfer Tavern this evening for a pool tournament are discussing reports that the club could be set to sell a player who has been at the club since his younger days.
The Daily Telegraph is reporting that the struggling Premier League side are set to offload striker Gabriel Agbonlahor this summer.
Agbonlahor has come through the youth ranks at Villa Park, and is one of many big names the club know they will have to clear out as they begin life in the Championship next season.
The club hope to be able to use the player’s £54,000 a week wages on players who can get them out of the Championship at the first attempt.
It has been a tough couple of week for Agbonlahor, who was omitted from the Villa squad for last Saturday’s defeat against Chelsea, after being pictured in Dubai smoking from a shisha pipe.
The long term Villa man will not be the only player leaving the club this season with Micah Richards and Charles N’Zogbia also expected to be released.
The Villa fans in The Tavern are not surprised by the news and fully expect more departures than the three named as they look to rebuild the squad for Championship football next season.
Is getting rid of Agbonlahor the right call? Let us know in the comments below!
