Aston Villa readying bid for highly-rated Championship forward

Milton Keynes Dons v Manchester United - Capital One Cup Second RoundThe Transfer Tavern’s dartboard is buzzing with anticipation tonight, as Aton Villa fans are reacting to news of a new striker on the clubs radar that has appeared in The Express.

The report suggests that Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood is readying a £10 million bid for the highly rated striker Benik Afobe in January.

This will be bad news for all fans of Wolves, who view Afobe as a key element to their side, since he was signed from Arsenal last January.

Afobe has been a prolific striker over the last couple of seasons and during a loan spell with MK Dons he managed to score 10 goals in 22 appearances, which included a hat-trick against Manchester United in the Capital One Cup.

This form encourages Wolves to come in and make Arsenal an offer for the frontman, and since joining the Championship side he has managed top keep up his impressive scoring form netting 19 times in 33 appearances for the Midlands side.

Aston Villa have been on the hunt for a striker to fill the boots of Christian Benteke, who made the move to Liverpool during the summer when his release clause was met.

So far this season Aston Villa have struggled to score goals, scoring just eight in eight Premier League games, a stat that sees them currently in 18th position on just four points this campaign so far.

The Villa fans in The Transfer Tavern are ecstatic with the news that Afobe could be set to join their club, and are hopeful of welcoming the striker to Villa Park come early January when the window opens.
