Aston Villa rejected in attempts to land second summer signing

Rio FerdinandFormer Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has already received his first offer from a Premier League club.

But according to the Daily Star, the former West Ham United academy graduate has rejected the offer put forward to him by serial underachievers Aston Villa.

Ferdinand spent a hugely successful 12 years at Old Trafford after joining from the Red Devils’ rivals Leeds United in 2002.

However he was released this summer after the Manchester club decided not to extend his contract following an injury-hit season.

But according to reports this morning, he’s received an approach from Paul Lambert’s Aston Villa.

Villa are looking to bolster their defence ahead of next season after they teetered above the Premier League relegation zone throughout 2013/14.

Just yesterday they signed former Arsenal and current Switzerland international Philippe Senderos but it looks like plans to partner him alongside Ferdinand could end as quickly as they begun.

Aston Villa fans. Your side have been craving a bit of experience in recent seasons and Ferdinand would certainly offer that. But is Ferdinand just that bit too old at 35? Let us know your thoughts below.
