Aston Villa failed to secure all three points at Villa Park yesterday as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Gary Rowett’s Stoke City side.
The Villains are struggling to challenge for a play-off spot at this moment in time as they haven’t been able to keep the pressure on the teams above. But, it appears as if the Midlands club already have their sights set on the January transfer window, as according to The Mirror’s transfer news live blog (15/12, 10:43), Aston Villa and Derby County are set to go head to head to sign Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu.
Indeed, the 6-cap Wales international is a January loan target for Aston Villa.
Villa have John Terry as first-team coach and Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham on-loan, so they’ll be looking to make use of their close links to the Premier League club.
Sadly, the Villains are short on numbers at the heart of the defence at this moment in time and they’ve struggled to ensure defensive solidity at times, so Ampadu would be a great signing.
Ethan Ampadu has established himself as one of the hottest prospects in English football over the past couple of seasons at Chelsea, but he just hasn’t received enough minutes in the current campaign.
Indeed, a loan move to Villa Park would provide him with regular minutes on the field and the chance to develop, along with Chelsea legend John Terry guiding him along the way.
