The Aston Villa fans who are having a drink at the bar in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing reports linking them with a move for a new striker.
The Birmingham Mail is reporting that Roberto Di Matteo is interested in taking Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle to Villa Park this summer.
Gayle was in and out of the Palace side last season under Alan Pardew and is reportedly seeking guarantees of more action next season for the Premier League side.
The recently relegated side were linked with a move for Gayle last summer but the board decided against making a move despite then manager Tim Sherwood recommending the striker as a useful addition to the squad.
Gayle is no stranger to Championship having played 29 games for Pererborough United scoring 13 goals which earnt him the move to Crystal Palace.
Since joining Palace, Gayle has appeared on 74 occassions scoring 37 goals and is know for hitting the target on a regular basis wherever he has played in the past.
Our landlord here in The Tavern believes that Gayle would be a great addition to the Villa squad as they look for an instant return to the Premier League.
