West Brom and Aston Villa supporters are interested by the latest story to reach the Football Transfer Tavern, with Sky Sports reporting the Baggies have rejected an offer from their Midlands rivals for experienced defender Joleon Lescott.
The 32-year-old has a year left on his contract at the Hawthorns, having joined on a two-year-deal last summer after leaving Manchester City on a free transfer.
Tim Sherwood has been active in the transfer market since recouping more than £40million following the sales of Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph, and the Villa boss looks to have set his sights on the former England international.
West Brom have just completed the signing of £8million defender James Chester from Hull City, which may see Lescott’s place come under threat next season.
However, the Baggies have made it clear they do not want to sell to their rivals, and have rejected Villa’s initial approach.
It has been a busy few days for Sherwood, with Villa close to signing Emmanuel Adebayor from Tottenham, Rudy Gestede from Blackburn and midfielder Jordan Veretout from Nantes..
