Aston Villa supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern have had plenty of transfer speculation to keep them occupied in recent weeks, although they are desperate to ensure there are no more big name departures.
The Villains have already lost club captain Fabian Delph and main striker Christian Benteke this summer, and now the Birmingham Mail has reported they are fighting to keep hold of West Brom target Ciaran Clark.
Villa themselves have been linked with a Baggies defender in the form of Joleon Lescott, and manager Tim Sherwood is hoping the former England international will come in to compliment – rather than to replace – Clark.
Villa have already rejected an offer from their Midlands rivals for Clark, and Sherwood is adamant the 25-year-old should be offered a new contract, as he has just one year remaining on his current deal.
Should Clark sign, he will become the second Villa defender to agree a new contract, after Nathan Baker put pen to paper on a new deal last Friday.
A plethora of Villa fans enjoying the beer and burger special at the bar are deliberating this particular news story, with the majority agreeing that Clark definitely has a future at Villa Park, and they can only see the player going from strength to strength!
