After rumours emerged last week linking Arsenal’s injured defender Laurent Koscielny with Aston Villa, we discussed what this mean for The Villans.
The 33-year-old centre-back has been on the sidelines so far this season, carrying an achilles injury he sustained at the denouement of last season, which ruled him out of France’s World Cup triumph. With the arrival of Sokratis Papastathopoulos and the emergence of Rob Holding at The Emirates, the Frenchman may struggle to make his way back into The Gunners’ starting XI.
On the other hand, he would be of great use to a severely weak Aston Villa defence at the moment. With that in mind, we asked you if Koscielny would be a good move for Aston Villa, and these were the results:
While the clear majority of Villa fans support Koscielny’s arrival, almost a quarter of fans still disagree with the move despite the player’s pedigree and the club’s current defensive crisis. This is quite a surprising number, given the fact that only a few months ago the defender would have been featuring for his country in the World Cup. However, these Villa fans may appreciate that the club need to look to younger players for long term success, and Koscielny would just use up funds.
