Ambitious owner closes in on stunning candidate for Aston Villa job

The Aston Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern who’ve had so little to celebrate and so much to drink in order to drown their sorrows could finally be on the verge of something to shout about.

According to the Daily Mail, former Manchester United manager David Moyes is considering a formal offer from the club to takeover as their new manager.

The Villains were without a manager as they dropped to the Championship after axing Remi Garde in March, though have been takeover by a wealthy Chinese consortium since.

Roberto Di Matteo and Nigel Pearson are also thought to be in the race, though the Scotsman is now believed to be in the driving seat after lengthy face-to-face talks with the club.

He has been out of work since being sacked by Real Sociedad and while his La Liga adventure to provide much respite after a miserable time in charge of the Red Devils, is widely commended for the job he did at Everton.

Is Moyes the right man to sort out the mess at Villa Park?
