Aston Villa afford stalwart easy exit, Middlesbrough keen on PL veteran

The Aston Villa fans who are competing in a pool tournament in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing reports that one of their goalkeepers is set to leave the club.

According to a report in The Telegraph, the Championship club are set to let Brad Guzan leave the club for free in the hope that it speeds up a potential move to Middlesbrough for the American goalkeeper.

The 31-year old, who was number one choice for both Paul Lambert and Tim Sherwood during their tenures at Villa Park, saw certain sections of the crowd turn on him last season.

Following the club’s relegation they are in need of trimming the wage bill and by offering the Midlands veteran on a free, they hope that a deal between the player and newly promoted Premier League side can be swiftly agreed.

Guzan has been with Villa since 2008 and should he leave this summer he will have made over 170 appearances for the club over the last eight seasons.

Villa fans, how fondly will you remember Guzan? Let us know below…
